Welcome

The School Data Network helps individual and groups of schools or academies to make best use of their pupil performance data.

We have developed ways of making complex pupil level data accessible to everyone through innovative analysis coupled to simple, attractive, insightful and highly visual approaches.

Recent developments include…

  • New ways to analyse data to meet the new 2012 OFSTED Framework, particularly ways to self-evaluate achievement gap/ socio-economic issues.
  • Data Dashboards for different constituent members of the school such as senior leaders, governors, teachers, parents and even pupils. Each technique serves a different purpose.

Clever benchmarking…

We particularly specialise in helping schools to draw comparisons between themselves and other schools or academies using data from other institutions of a similar type. For example, we have developed our own unique school context algorithms that help schools go a long way beyond the contextual approaches adopted by the DfE and OFSTED for inspection. This is proving very important now that CVA is going; schools with below national average attainment can no longer use this government-provided index as a means to show good learner progress.

Visual presentation is the key…

We believe that pictures are easier than numbers, and that it is possible for everyone to be able to understand and learn from complex data without the need for a degree in statistics(!) We have achieved this by developing a simple time-saving service that turns complex numeric performance data into a series of instantly understandable visualisations.

Central to this idea is a ‘Data Dashboard’; a collection of innovative and instantly understandable graphical representations of key aspects of a school’s performance data. The dashboard can be provided as a static entity i.e. an A4 or A3 printout, or as an interactive on-line web page.
